Melea Smith Honored by State Board of Education

Melea Smith, APR, former INSPRA President and Director of Communications for Naperville Community School District 203, was among more than 150 award recipients recognized for their outstanding service to education at the 35th annual Those Who Excel/Teacher of the Year banquet.

Smith, who was awarded an Award of Excellence in the School Administrator Category, joined one hundred and sixty-two outstanding teachers, administrators, student support personnel, educational service personnel and community members as they took the stage Saturday, October 24, where the Illinois State Board of Education honored them.

Candidates were nominated by their local schools. Nominations included a brief biography of the nominee, his or her philosophy of education, professional development and community involvement and their opinions of the state’s most pressing educational needs. Letters of recommendation were also required.

A committee of peers selected the award winners. The committee represents statewide education organizations and includes former award winners.

Congratulations Melea. We are very proud of your accomplishments!
