School Communications Positions

Barrington Community Unit School District 220 has an immediate opening for a Director of Communications. Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism or Communication; have extensive knowledge of HTML/CSS, Web technologies and social media platforms; be Adept at using Adobe and Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.); the ability to take initiative, work independently and cope with continual interruptions and shifting job priorities; and the ability to budget time effectively, organize/prioritize multiple tasks with an aptitude for quality, accuracy and detailed work.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Actively monitor and integrate all forms of social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) to support and promote news, activities and achievements throughout the Barrington 220 School District.
  • Recommend new forms of emerging social media that would provide appropriate outlets for district news, staying connected to evolving digital monitoring and measurement technologies.
  • Solicit news and information in order to generate newsworthy stories and then draft/write online copy for articles, Websites and social media.
  • Act as the key point of contact for social media queries, developing a response process, engaging with students, staff and community members, and proactively promoting information about the school district.
  • Photograph or secure basic video of events in the school district that are suitable content for the district Websites.
  • Support communication initiatives by generating publicity and general awareness efforts, raising the profile of the school district through a wide range of media, including local publications, Websites, e-newsletters and social media posts.
  • Maximize direct marketing opportunities utilizing e-mail, Web-based and conventional mailings to publicize important district information.
  • Interface with members of local and regional media outlets, providing a customer-service approach in facilitating story requests and inquiries.
  • Update the school district Website, social media sites and photography archive on a regular basis.
  • Interact as necessary with publicity contacts for the Barrington 220 Educational Foundation, school Parent Teacher Organizations and alumni.

Maine Township High School District 207 has an opening for a Communication and Marketing Specialist who will focus on creating content and marketing strategies to share the story of District 207 and to enhance and strengthen our presence and connection in the community and education network. Primary duties include media and community relations, advertising and public information campaigns, and developing content for a variety of electronic and print communication channels, including social media, websites, blogs, videos, newsletters and other publications.


Bachelor's Degree or higher with experience in communications, public relations, marketing, advertising, graphic and web design, SEO, and digital video arts. Two years of writing, graphic design, media relations, social media, e-marketing, or website content management and design. Familiarity with a variety of marketing, public relations, and website concepts, best practices, and procedures. Experience working with multiple marketing channels.

Required Skills

Advanced skills in digital video content creation, photography, writing, editing, graphic design, word processing software; innovative use of social media networks, SEO and how to market using current, innovative and emerging industry trends; and analytics tools and tactics. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in writing, proofreading, digital files, and in use of content management systems. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to make presentations for staff, media outlets, and community groups. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Glenbard Township High School District 87 has an opening for a part-time assistant to the Community Relations Coordinator. This is a 10-15 hours/week, 10-month position. Start time - Mid-August. Salary - $12.75 per hour.

Responsibilities include coordinating all administrative support activities related to the efficient operation of the Community Relations office. The ideal candidate will have experience in marketing, advertising, communications or business OR be a college sophomore or junior, studying to earn a bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, communications or business.


  • Education and experience equivalent to high school diploma
  • Previous experience in an educational setting preferred
  • Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PhotoShop, Google Docs and type 45wpm.
  • Digital photography experience preferred
  • Strong proofreading ability
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong detail orientation
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently under varying deadlines
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to identify sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
